Temptation: SOL #2 March 2, 2011

Tonight I went out to buy folders for my students. I tried Office Max, but they were too expensive. So then I decided to go to Wal-Mart. I really didn’t want to go there, but I knew folders would be cheaper. As I entered the building, I noticed the Coca-cola machines with my most favorite drink of all time – Coke. My mouth watered in anticipation of one of those sleek, cold bottles. I told myself that I would buy one of those refreshing beverages when I went to check out. This made me smile on the inside. I went down the office and school supply isle to find my folders. The whole time I was searching for folders my mouth was eager to have that Coke.

You see I am going to attempt to give up my most favorite drink for Lent this year. I only drink one a day so this should be easy right? Not so far. Lent hasn’t even started yet and my husband won’t buy any more Cokes. At this time in my life there is no Coke in my house.

I selected my folders and proceeded to the check-out lanes to find that tasty beverage. I opened the glass refrigerated door with those sleek, cold bottles staring at me. Then I saw it – the price for one 16oz bottle of Coke – $1.48. That’s more than one of my folders! I  decided to not purchase that tasty goodness even though my tongue is not happy with me right now. There’s always the vending machines at school until next Wednesday, Ash Wednesday.

I guess the power of the the wallet beats the anticipating taste of Coke. FYI – the machines outside Walmart are usually cheaper than the cooler next to the check out. Good description.

  2. oh,man…this is hilarious! i love your description and how much you wanted that coke. i wanted you to have it, too!! good luck with lent.

Oh my gosh! I am also contemplating giving up Coke for Lent. Just today, I was questioning if eliminating Coke would be too drastic a measure. I know how you felt as you shopped — the anticipation of getting a Coke –oh, how i empathize. Good luck — if you are already down to one a day you are in good shape!
