I am probably not your typical English teacher. I love to teach writing and combine it with teaching grammar. I strongly believe that incorporating grammar within the writing instruction is the best way for students to learn how to effectively use grammar because they are actually using the skills learned. Grammar should not be taught separate. The way I got started on this kick was back in the summer of 2005. I attended the summer institute of the West Tennessee Writing Project (WTWP), which is part of the National Writing Project. There I learned that I enjoyed being a writer and that I wanted to pass that joy onto my students. I have successfully done that these past few years and I am going to continue that tradition with my teaching. Along with that I am a teacher researcher. I look for the whys and hows of my teaching because I always want to better my teaching and be the best I can be for my students!
